The Use of Titanium Dioxide (Nano) as UV Filter Permissible by the European Commission’s Amendment to Cosmetics Regulation
The European Commission (EC) made an announcement of a regulation in the Official Journal of the European Union which amends Annex VI, the list of ultraviolet (UV) filters allowed in cosmetic products. The amendment allows the use of titanium dioxide (nano) and titanium dioxide as long as the combined amount of the two chemicals does not exceed 25 percent maximum concentration in ready-to-use form. Titanium dioxide (nano) used alone also cannot exceed 25 percent maximum in ready-to-use form, nor can it be used in products that may be inhaled into the end user's lungs.
