Following a record-breaking decline of the Western Monarch Butterflies due to climate change, habitat destruction and lack of food due to drought (fewer than 2,000 butterflies in 2020 were counted by experts), experts are reporting an estimated 50,000 monarchs at overwintering sites in California.
