Vireo Advisors Has Published the Safer-by-Design Toolbox (SbD Toolbox) to Screen the Safety of Novel Forms of Cellulose Materials
A project funded by P3Nano titled, “Safer-by-Design Toolbox to Advance Safer Manufacturing of Functionalized CNs” (SbD Toolbox Project) developed a Safer-by-Design Toolbox (SbD Toolbox) to screen the safety of novel forms of cellulose nanomaterials (CNs) for use in multiple commercial products. The toolbox includes a suite of physical, chemical, and toxicological testing methods for pre-commercial safety evaluations, as well as compendium of safety data that has been generated to date for first generation cellulose materials (e.g., unmodified MFC) and priority second generation CNs including sulfated (acid hydrolyzed) and carboxyl (TEMPO-oxidized, periodate-chlorite oxidized) surface chemistries. The SbD Toolbox was developed together with our collaborators, Dr. You-Lo Hsieh (UC Davis), Dr. Christie Sayes (Baylor) and Dr. Nicole Stark (USDA Forest Products Lab). The SbD Toolbox is free and openly available to all interested stakeholders. To access the SbD Toolbox, please visit Vireo’s resource page. Vireo Advisors is proud to launch this new resource to help industry bring the next generation of safer cellulose products to market!
