Our Latest Article Reviews the Current State of Nanocellulose Applications, Safety and Regulatory Requirements in Food and Food Packaging
We are pleased to announce that our latest paper, Nanocellulose and its Modified Forms in the Food Industry: Applications, Safety, and Regulatory Perspectives, has been published in Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety. In collaboration with researchers from the Kong Lab at the University of Georgia, we provide a comprehensive review of the potential applications of nanocelluloses (NCs) in food and food packaging applications including the various production methods, functionalizations, and forms of NCs being developed. The review includes an update summarizing the available literature evaluating the safety and biocompatibility of NCs and outlines the current international regulatory landscape for NCs for uses in food and food packaging.
Our findings suggest that unmodified NCs are safe for many food-related applications and additional research needed to drive the commercialization of next-generation NCs is addressed and prioritized. With NCs poised to drive innovation and sustainability in the food industry, our review provides valuable guidance on the steps needed for NC commercialization.
