Vireo Advisors Proud to Join CAPE Project Working to Advance Cellular Agriculture in the Canadian Prairies
As a part of a $1 million grant from Prairies Economic Development Canada, Vireo Advisors is proud to be partnering with New Harvest to advance a more resilient and sustainable food production system through cellular agriculture technologies. Vireo Advisors will contribute to the Cellular Agriculture Prairies Ecosystem (CAPE) project by developing a safety strategy for future approval of crop-based inputs and help develop a publicly available safety database.
CAPE brings together 12 partners (University of Alberta, University of Manitoba, Lethbridge Polytechnic, Dalhousie University, Alberta Sugar Beet Growers, BioBoost Synbio, Ferma Farms, Opalia, GERBER-RAUTH, PnuVax, Vireo Advisors Canada, and Stelo Biotechnology) to promote agricultural circularity, reduced food production emissions, and adopting local crops and supply chains to decrease reliance on unsustainable imported goods, while building a resilient, locally driven food system. CAPE aims to kickstart a cellular agriculture applied research and innovation ecosystem in the Prairies—transforming local agricultural resources into biomanufacturing inputs while enhancing talent development and research infrastructure to enhance economic opportunities.
Vireo Advisors is proud to continue supporting bringing cellular agriculture technologies to market by navigating regulatory compliance and demonstrating safety. We invite others who are passionate about cellular agriculture to consider joining Vireo and New Harvest in a working session designed to initiate research collaborations to address cell-cultured meat and seafood safety priorities. These working sessions are convening global experts and researchers in food safety, toxicology, biomanufacturing, cell biology, food science, and other related fields who are interested in actively working on or advising cell-cultured meat and seafood safety research.
Apply here for our June 2025 working session. Additional dates and locations will be announced soon. To indicate interest in attending a future session, fill out this form. For any questions or suggestions, reach out to CMSI@VireoAdvisors.com.
