New Publication on Cellulose Nanomaterials Safety Data Sheets
The findings of Vireo Advisors’ analysis of data availability for creating Safety Data Sheets (SDS) was published last week in TAPPI Journal. Co-authored with P3Nano collaborators Ted Wegner of the Forest Products Laboratory and Michael Goergen of the US Endowment for Forestry and Communities, the manuscript assessed available safety information for cellulose nanomaterials to identify knowledge and gaps in the context of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). The discussion highlights information needs specifically for hazard classification, for both cellulose nanocrystals and cellulose nanofibrils.
A focused effort by industry, academia and government to collect and report key data in the identified knowledge gaps will allow for more complete GHS-compliant Safety Data Sheets to communicate the safety of cellulose nanomaterials.
