Graphene-lined Clothing offers Protection from Mosquito Bites
Researchers from Brown University recently published their findings of their study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences showed that graphene oxide-lined clothing deters mosquitos from living things by blocking the chemical signals which attract them. The graphene in the clothing also provided an effective protective barrier from the mosquito bites. The researchers found that though the graphene oxide decreased in effectiveness when it became wet; however, the reduced oxygen content (rGO) did not lose its ability to serve as a bite barrier in wet conditions. This form of rGO is not breathable and does not serve as an applicable material for clothing. Further research is being conducted to develop a graphene material which is both breathable and effective at providing mosquito bite protection in wet conditions.
