Japanese Consortium Releases Vehicle Made from Cellulose Nanofibers
A consortium founded by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment and consisting of over 22 Japanese universities, research institutes and industry partners debuted the Nano Cellulose Vehicle (NCV) at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2019. The NCV incorporates Cellulose Nanofibers (CNF) derived from plants and recycled agricultural waste in the body of the car (including the doors, roof and hood) and structural tub allowing for incredible lightweighting while maintaining strength. The car’s shell alone is up to 50% lighter than a traditional vehicle!
