University of California Granted Third CRISPR Patent

The University of California was issued another patent relating to CRISPR, which is a ground breaking technique for gene editing in bacteria, plants and animals. Specifically, this patent relates to a single-molecule guide RNA, which helps direct the Cas-9 enzyme to correctly cut the proper DNA sequence for gene editing. This is the third patent issued to the University of California over CRISPR-Cas9 compositions and it is estimated they could be worth billions. A fourth patent is expected to be released in a couple of weeks.
