The latest edition of Protein Production Technology International has been published and it features our very own Kimberly Ong! In this issue, Kim highlights how that “we don’t need to reinvite the wheel” when it comes to food safety evaluations: Many of the scientific methods for evaluating food safety already exists; however, there “is still uncertainty in how to apply these methods to cultivated meat and seafood products”.

We were thrilled to host another CMSI Phase 3 working session earlier this month in collaboration with New Harvest!  Thank you to all our participants for sharing their insights on addressing cultured meat safety research priorities. We had many fantastic discussions at the working session and are excited for the research collaborations to follow! Huge thanks to Wildtype for the venue, UC Davis iCAMP for hosting the networking session, and NSF/USDA for financial support.

In August 2024, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) announced that its longstanding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) would expire on October 1, 2024. Via this MoU, FDA provided scientific and technical assistance to AAFCO to support its ingredient definition request process.
