January 1, 2020 Deadline Approaches for REACH Requirements for Nanomaterials

In an October press release, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) reminded companies of the January 1, 2020 deadline by which more information concerning nanomaterials in the EU market must be provided under REACH Regulation. In accordance with this regulation deadline, companies are also required to update their existing dossiers with nanoform-specific information. The new nano-specific draft guidance and testing guidelines can be found on the ongoing guidance consultation page. ECHA intends to publish the finalized guidance at the end of 2019.

The International Uniform Chemical Information Database (IUCLID) will be updated on October 30, 2019 to include new data fields for reporting the characteristics of nanoforms and sets of nanoforms. Registrants must provide complete characterization information on their nanoforms or nanoform sets in order to submit a dossier in this updated system. A revised IUCLID manual will provide information to registrants on how to use the updated system.
