White House announcement of the Bioeconomy Initiative includes support for cultured meat and a streamlined process for regulatory approval

The White House announced on September 12, 2022 the signing of an Executive Order creating a U.S. National Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative. This initiative promises of "cultivating alternative food sources" and "looking to improve food security and drive agricultural innovation through new technologies...[including] foods made with cultured animal cells." It calls for strategic federal investments in biotechnology, enhanced domestic biomanufacturing, and the formation of a sustainable workforce that can generate safe and secure biotech innovations across the country.

Of particular relevance to Vireo Advisors, LLC and our clients is the intent to improve the clarity and efficiency of the regulatory process for biotechnology products. As an active partner with some of the world’s most innovative cultured meat companies, Vireo Advisors, LLC will continue to bring the latest science, technical expertise and policy knowledge to support regulatory clearances for the next generation of sustainable foods.
