Singapore provides regulatory guidelines and approval for the planet’s first cultured meat product

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has just authorized the first ever cultured chicken product from Eat Just. Eat Just’s “chicken bites” – created from chicken cells grown in bioreactors – represent a breakthrough achievement for the cultured meat industry, for first-in-the world Singapore and for San Francisco based Eat Just.

The SFA has pioneered the development of safety guidelines for the rapidly emerging cultured meat product technologies as part of a national strategy to produce 30 percent of Singapore’s nutritional needs by 2030 under Singapore’s Novel Foods legislation. Since the technologies used to produce cultured meat products are in early stages, SFA has noted that the guidance may change as the technologies further develop. Regulatory guidance is under development by the US Food and Drug Administration and the US Department of Agriculture, among other regulatory agencies globally.
